"The school is a calm and happy place of learning. Staff give pupils the self-confidence to try new things and achieve success" - Ofsted 2017

World War II Drama

Each half term Drama supports Topic or Literacy themes, helping our students to experience and explore ideas and events through role-play or a prepared performance.

This half term our Year 7 classes have been studying Children in the Second World War in their Topic lessons. In Drama we have built on this by creating a narrative following a group of children as they are evacuated from a City.

The lessons developed over several weeks; going from the declaration of war, evacuation, meeting their carers, finding their feet in their new homes and town and then returning home to their city in the middle of an air raid and having to hide in an Anderson shelter.

To the sounds of bombs and sirens they explored the objects in the shelter and discussed what they were and how they were used (the chamber pot and toilet roll got some great reactions!).
