Horizons Student, Meghan Simpson, was invited to meet the Mayor of Derby, Councillor Linda Winter, and received an award for working with people with dementia. This term the class have enjoyed trips out to Conkers and bowling as part of their residential. Cameron challenged his fears by climbing to the top of the climbing net and Mia braved the cold water in the sensory walk. “I’ve never felt colder water than that!” said Mia. During class taught lessons this term the focus has been on managing budgets, modern history and relationships.
In April, KS3B went on our 3 day trip to Kingswood Residential Centre in the Dearne Valley near Doncaster. We were blessed with (mostly) fabulous weather and we had an amazing time. We took part in activities such as fencing, high and low ropes, zipwire, climbing and problem solving. The children and adults all really enjoyed themselves. Our Football Team took part in a development session with Derby City SSP on Thursday 11th May 2017. The team worked with other local Special Schools, taking part in a variety of drills and then played several matches. All students were outstanding and were a credit to St Martins. Well done!

The current industrial action by support staff in UNISON is now suspended, whilst schools and union members consider the latest offer made by the council. THIS MEANS SCHOOL WILL BE OPEN TO ALL FROM MONDAY 20th MARCH. Thanks again to our students and their families for their loyalty to school and great patience over the last few months. It is a great relief to us all to get back to normal.
