11-19 age range re-designation for St Martins School
St Martins School – Approval to add Post-16 Provision
A decision has been taken by Derby City Council to permanently extend the age range and size of St Martins School from 11-16 to 11-19 from September 2014
Reason for decision
St Martins School is an Ofsted Outstanding secondary school for students with a wide range of special educational needs, including complex needs, autism, moderate learning difficulties, severe learning difficulties, and attachment disorders. The proposed Sixth Form is for statemented students from across the city who are at risk of becoming NEET or do not have the skills, qualifications or confidence to access other SEN post-16 providers. The proposal is likely to reduce the requests for expensive out of authority placements due to local provision not being able to meet the needs of the young people. Derby City Council is the decision maker for this type of proposal.
