On Monday 15th May, all students in Y9 and Y10 took part in a taster day to help choose their KS4 options. Throughout the day students were able to choose five subjects to try out. Some of the most popular options were as follows:

Film: Students used iPads and a green screen to see themselves on screen alongside some of their favourite characters.

Jamie Oliver Home Cooking Skills: On the taster day students made healthy fruit smoothies. This course is very practical and students try out a variety of healthy meals they can cook at home.

Hair and Beauty: Students practiced washing and styling hair using blocks and their friends as models. This has been a very popular option subject this year.

Carpentry and Joinery: Students use all of the machinery in our well-equipped Design Technology workshop to make items out of wood. This year students made personalised coffee tables and bookshelves.

Duke of Edinburgh: Students work towards their bronze or silver award which incorporates community work and a qualifying expedition.

Animal Care: Through our links with Derby College, students learn about looking after a range of different animals at the Derby College Broomfield site.

These are just some of our options choices. There are many more. Our options now follow three distinct pathways for students working at personal progress, entry level or GCSE / Level 1. Parents were invited to learn all about the option choices on Wednesday 17th May. This was a very successful and well attended evening and helped students to make the right choices.
