Chair of Governors’ Message

Welcome from the Chair of Governors,

We begin another exciting year where your sons
and daughters will have lots of opportunities to learn and develop in an environment that is the envy of many!

We believe, despite the funding issues we have had to deal with over the last year, Debbie and her staff are as prepared as they can be as we move into academisation and the opportunities this will offer in the coming years.

Also exciting this year is the start of Project Search, where some pupils from Horizons have the opportunity to spend a year at Derby City Hospital, doing various internships which will give them a real chance of employment for the future. This is really important to us, as no matter how well the teachers do to develop and support the students, the ultimate goal must be to help those capable of employment into productive work.

I personally will be keeping a keen eye on this and we’ll make sure you hear of the successes of this and the many other initiatives in school through the year.

Mr Jeff Howe
Chair of Governors

“Governors are hugely proud of their school and have very high aspirations.  They regularly challenge leaders to ensure that the quality of teaching and pupils’ rates of progress remain outstanding.” – Ofsted 2017
