Updates – November 2018

We would like to thank Howard and Ryan for our brilliant Outdoor Education lessons during Autumn Term 1 – we enjoyed not only the canoeing activities at Darley Barn, but also exploring different types of environment, completing a comparison of an Urban and Rural environments. For this learning activity, we visited Derby City Centre (urban) and Elvaston Castle (rural). We are looking forward to more Outdoor Education sessions after Christmas.

On the lead up to Remembrance Sunday, KS3CO did lots of work on World War I. In history, we have been focusing on the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and in English we have been looking at the poetry of Wilfred Owen. Additionally, St Martins School were able to contribute to the ‘Flag for the Fallen’ installation at the National Memorial Arboretum by decorating a flag in remembrance of a fallen solider.

We had the fantastic opportunity of visiting the National Memorial Arboretum on Thursday 15th November, which the students found thoroughly interesting and insightful. It was exciting to find the flags that we had created among those that had been made all over the country.

A huge thank you to Thomas in our class for the wonderful cupcakes you brought into school in support of Children in Need – not only were they delicious, but helped raise money towards a very important cause.

Update: April 2019

KS3CO enjoyed learning about autism for World Autism Day, and some students discussed what autism means for them. The class made excellent contributions to the whole-school World Autism Day assembly, and shared some experiences of autism. Thank you to everyone who supported World Autism Day by wearing blue clothes to show our understanding and celebration of autism.
