Welcome, we are KS3KTO. We are a small class of year 7, 8 and 9 pupils who spend our pastoral time in the KS3 Upstairs Area, as well as accessing the school’s specialist areas on a daily basis. Our classroom environment is tailored to suit our needs, providing a calm atmosphere where we are able to learn successfully. Our aim is for the class to become as independent as possible with their learning and life skills. It is important for us to have a pupil-centered approach to learning. To help and guide learning and understanding we use a TEACCH program.
We like to learn about our topics in different ways, including learning together and individually completing tasks. As well as learning in school, we also go out into the local community to further our life skills development and learn how to be a good citizen.
As a reward for completing our independent and adult-led work, we have choose time where we can pick an activity to develop our learning further in a fun, exciting and independent way. During our choose time we also have access to the sensory room and the balcony.
As a class we are going swimming every week and we were all very happy in the water. We will be building our confidence in the water playing games and having fun.
Update: December 2019
In maths we are learning about solving one step problems involving multiplication and division, by calculating the answer using number blocks, pictorial representations and arrays.
In English, we have been reading ‘The Great Fairytale disaster’ we explored emotive language and writing for a purpose. We wrote fantastic diary entries from the perspective of the wolf.
We visited Conkers Discovery Centre – look how much fun we had!
