St Martins School … is a secondary special school for pupils aged 11-19 years of age, and is commissioned to provide up to 130 places for SEN students across the city . We are based on a new site called the Derwent Campus, where we are co-located with Noel Baker School. We have a successful vocational SEN 16-19 provision called Horizons, which has a second year base in Derby city centre, where students access work placements , FE preparation courses and learn employment skills. .There are 64% FSM students on roll which is significantly above the national average, and this is a reflection of the socio-economic and deprivation index for the school and locality. Use of Pupil Premium is identified on the website. The school continues to respond positively to the changing demographics and profile of students who are referred to us by the LA. There has been an increase in the number of students with ASD and Complex Needs diagnoses, and CPD training has had to be strategically planned to respond to this challenge.
The school still remains focused completely on excellence in teaching and learning, maximising achievement and progression for all students and facilitating personal career development and job satisfaction for all the staff teams. Although graded outstanding in our last Ofsted inspection, we constantly seek to do things better and strive for curriculum innovation and creativity to achieve this.
Our motto is “Shaping futures-Broadening Horizons”, and we have developed a unique curriculum concept called “SHAPE”. Our focus is on creating confident individuals, successful learners, and responsible citizens. We also place great emphasis on valueing and developing excellent relations with our families, local and global communities as well as the numerous partnerships we have. We are all very proud of our school, students, staff, families and community.
We are a forward thinking school and have been approved by the National College to be a National Teaching School. We are also a lead school in the Derby Teaching Schools Alliance. We seek excellence in all we do, but always remind ourselves that the learning progress, personal development, welfare and achievements of our amazing students must always be at the centre of everything we do: any visit to see our school will confirm this.
